MLB Betting – Take A Look At These World Series Underdogs

If you bet on MLB baseball, you’re aware that Boston and Philadelphia are the favorites to win the World Series, while the New York Yankees are always lurking, along with Texas and St. Louis, but what about the underdogs. Here is a look at three teams to watch this fall.

San Francisco

Yes, the defending World Series champions are underdogs here, but they were also darkhorses last year. Their offense is still bad, but they got some timely hitting, and you can never count out a team that can trot out Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain in their rotation. If the bats can be slightly above average, the Giants will be a threat.

Milwaukee

The Brewers have all the offense in the world with Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun, but they also have a great trio of starters in Zack Greinke, Shaun Marcum and Yovani Gallardo. But Greinke has been shaky and the other two have no postseason experience, and that will be the key to the Brewers’ sports betting odds in the fall.

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels are as balanced as anyone in the majors as they can drive in runs, but they also have a great one-two punch in the rotation in Jered Weaver and Dan Haren. Pitching is what wins championships, as the Giants proved in 2010, and the Angels are stocked. If they can into the playoffs, watch for the Angels sports betting online odds.

MLB Betting – A Look At The Weekend Trends

MLB betting players are gearing up for another weekend of interleague action, and here is a peek at some trends to pay attention to before you make your picks.

Rockies Yankees Betting

The Yankees have won five of their nine meetings with the Rockies, with five games going over the posted total, and they swept Colorado in three games in 2004, with two games going over the posted total. However, that was in the old Yankee Stadium, so there could be a fresh slate this weekend.

Mets Rangers Betting

These two have split six meetings since 2003, with four games falling under the posted total, and the Mets won two of three in Texas eight years ago, with two games coming in under the total.

Angels Dodgers Betting

In this crosstown rivalry, the Angels have won seven of the last 10 meetings, with seven games going over the total, and they’ve dominated at Dodger Stadium, going 7-3 in their last 10 trips with half of the games finishing under the posted total.

Twins Brewers Betting

In a matchup of Central Division teams, Minnesota and Milwaukee have split their last 10 meetings, with five games going over the posted total. In Milwaukee, the Brewers are 6-4 against the Twins with six games coming in over the posted total.

Indians Giants Betting

Finally, the Indians have won four of their six meetings with the Giants, and the last four games have fallen under the total. They pulled off a three-game sweep in San Francisco in 2005, with two games over the total, but don’t expect that to happen again in your betting book.

PayPerHead.com launches new pricing, a new site, and a new campaign featuring Soprano’s Johnny Sack

PayPerHead.com, an online sportsbook service provider for local agents, today unveiled a new campaign featuring Vince Curatola, Johnny Sack of The Sopranos fame.

The campaign leads with Vince asking “Five bucks per head, that’s what I wanna pay…” and the website, featuring video and voice overs by Vince, walks you through the product, the process and the competition.
“Five bucks a head is really an industry first given our level of service,” a spokesman from PayPerHead.com explained. “And we very carefully and in great detail delineate on the website exactly what you get and at what price level at PayPerHead versus the other serious players, such as Pay x Head.”

And what you get is a lot, including not only the traditional online sportsbook betting management but an optional casino, live poker, in game live betting, mobile betting, tools for managing players and their funds, layoff and scalp accounts, even a “sharp check.” “We have the sharpest lines out there and one of the most experienced stages anywhere offshore,” the spokesman said, “so if we start seeing sharp action from one of your players, we can give you a heads up. What you want to do with him is up to you.”

The choice of Vince Curatola was an interesting one. “We always liked Vince’s character on The Sopranos, as John “Johnny Sack” Sacramoni,” the PayPerHead spokesman said. “He had a certain style, classy, but not over the top; there’s a calmness and authority about him that we really admire.  He brings that serious business demeanor to PayPerHead.com, the first sportsbook-service to EVER feature any kind of celebrity in its marketing.”
With post-up books like BetUS, Sportsbook.com and SportsInteraction stopping taking US players, Bodog and others struggling with “Ecom” processing problems, the street scene is heating up and players are posting daily in forums looking for a “local out.” Players want the huge selection of markets, including live in-game betting, and the convenience of anytime betting online or via their mobile, but more and more say “they want to bet online but prefer to settle in cash on Monday.”

Is this the future of online sports betting? Quite possibly. And with firms like PayPerHead.com investing in marketing in an unprecedented way (celebs, who’d have thunk it?!) and in product (they also offer live poker, casino and in-game betting), expect to see this sector grow significantly this season.

NBA Betting – Mavs Have Uphill Climb Against Heat

Even if you’re a 2011 Belmont Stakes betting player, you have to be paying attention to one of the best NBA Finals in a while between Dallas and Miami, which was tied up at two games apiece heading into a critical Game 5 in Dallas on Thursday night. Can the Mavericks avenge their 2006 loss to the Heat?

Even if the Mavericks win Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead back to Miami, the Heat are still the smart play as they’ve been great at home so far in the playoffs, and in Miami, they’ll likely get an improved LeBron James, who was awful offensively in Game 4’s two-point loss. At home, look for James to be much more aggressive and not just be content to be a defensive stopper, leaving the offensive duties to Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Another big reason that Miami will win the title is because Dallas’ role players really struggled in Miami, and role players generally tend to play better at home than they are on the road. With the title on the line and the lights getting brighter as the games go on, how will the likes of J.J. Barea, Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion play?

It’s going to be a couple of close games, as this series has been a hard-fought bout, but the Heat have the talent and the defense to take it. Dallas can win, it definitely is a possibility, but it wouldn’t be a smart bet in your online sports betting book. (continue reading…)

Stanley Cup Finals Preview

It has been a crazy 24 hours for Canadian Belmont betting enthusiasts also gambling on the NHL. Firstly, the NHL shocked the sports betting world by agreeing to allow a Canadian company to purchase the Atlanta Thrashers and move the team to Winnipeg for the start of next season. Than to top themselves, the NHL kicks off the Stanley Cup final between two teams trying to break long Stanley Cup droughts tonight in Vancouver. Here is a preview of the Stanley Cup Finals.

This year’s Stanley Cup Final is the first time in four years that a Canadian team has made it to the Stanley Cup, as the President’s Trophy winning Vancouver Canucks battle original six franchise the Boston Bruins. On paper, this series looks like a mismatch, as the Canucks dominated the NHL with an impressive 117 points during the regular season, and grew into an elite level team as the playoffs have progressed. Boston on the contrary, had a decent regular season, but similar to the Canucks grew to be more dominant as the playoffs progressed.

After five days of layoff, the Bruins and Canucks finally get back to action tonight. Game one in Vancouver marks the first game in the Vancouver since the 1994 Stanley Cup season in which the Canucks lost in seven games to the New York Rangers. On the other side of things, the Boston Bruins haven’t seen the Stanley Cup finals since 1990 when they were swept in four games by the overwhelming Edmonton Oilers.

Tonight, something has to give, as both teams have gone undefeated in the playoffs after winning game one of a series. What’s more, history shows that the team to win game one of the finals, usually goes on to win the final. For Canadian hockey fans, let’s hope Vancouver wins game one tonight.

2011 Belmont Betting – Shackleford/Animal Kingdom Will Be The Focus At Belmont

Belmont Stakes2011 Belmont betting players will be starting their research for the third and final jewel in thoroughbred horse racing’s Triple Crown, but most of the pre-Belmont attention will be on a battle between the first two Triple Crown winners, Animal Kingdom and Shackleford. The two horses are among the favorites to win the Belmont Stakes in three weeks, and it’ll be an interesting matchup of styles.

Animal Kingdom is more of a second-half horse as he proved in late runs at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, and in Baltimore he likely would have beaten Shackleford if the race was even a half-furlong longer. That is why he is the favorite at the Belmont Stakes, which is the longest Triple Crown race at 1.5 miles. It’s more of a marathon than a sprint, and that bodes well for his chances.

Shackleford loves to jump out of the gate, and we saw before the Preakness that he has a lot of nervous energy as he was a handful to load into the starting gate. But when he gets out of the gate, Shackleford shoots out as he set the pace at the Kentucky Derby before fading to fourth, and he made his fast start count at the Preakness but not before Animal Kingdom made it interesting.

Two different horses, two different ways to win, who gets the edge? It would have to be Animal Kingdom as the key to winning the Belmont is stamina, and he gets a second win halfway through the race. Still, take a good, long look at Shackleford before making your sports betting online picks.

Stanley Cup Odds

Stanley CupAnd then there were four, with four teams remaining in the Preakness betting Stanley Cup playoffs, the bookmakers in Las Vegas have set up brand new odds. This week, fans sports betting on the NHL, will have the opportunity to watch games two to four of both the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. Today we will be looking at the updated odds for the NHL’s final four teams.

As sports bettors, we find ourselves entrenched in a constant search for great value odds on our favorite teams. With the Stanley Cup playoff odds changing from round to round, fans are finding it more difficult to receive great value on their picks. Regardless, here are the odds for each remaining team. For all intents and purposes, the odds are placed beside each team and broken down by series.

Eastern Conference Finals Boston Bruins (+450) v Tampa Bay Lightning (+275) – Despite being ranked higher in the overall standings, the Bruins find themselves as an underdog in the Eastern Conference finals against Tampa Bay. Essentially, Tampa Bay won game one of the series by a convincing score of five to two. Therefore, the bookmakers felt that the Lightning’s game one win tied with their series victories over top seed Washington and fourth seed Pittsburgh, warranted the favorite status. Bettors taking the Lightning have to risk $100 to get back $275 on their odds. Meanwhile, bettors taking Boston to not only win the series, but the Stanley Cup, only need to risk $100 to get back $450.

Western Conference Finals San Jose Sharks (+450) v Vancouver Canucks (+110) – Prior to their game one victory over the San Jose Sharks, the Vancouver Canucks were a +160 favorite to win the Stanley Cup. Since they won game one, the Canucks saw their odds rise to +110, presenting a bit of a challenge for bettors trying to find value. Conversely, because of the game one loss, the Sharks dropped from a +250 favorite to win the Stanley Cup, to a +450 underdog. For the reason that we are in the business of finding value, we suggest that similar to taking the Boston Bruins in the East, you should take the San Jose Sharks to come out of the West, because +450 offers more value than the +110 tied to Vancouver.

2011 Preakness Betting – Take Shackleford For His Value

Preakness Stakes2011 Preakness betting players are gearing up for the second jewel of the Triple Crown, and the first jewel was decided by a sleeper as Animal Kingdom romped to a win with an outstanding outside run in the second half of the race. However, he has now been listed as the breeders cup betting favorite, and the play for the big race at Pimlico Racecourse is the horse that led a major part of the Kentucky Derby.

It’s no Bet Online scam, Shackleford is currently being offered at +1000 for the Preakness, and he offers great value because of a fourth-place run at Churchill Downs that didn’t end the way he wanted it to. Shackleford raced out to the lead and set the pace for at least the first half of the race, until Nehro and Mucho Macho Man caught up to him to make a race out of it. These three battled it out amongst each other until Animal Kingdom made a big run on the outside to storm to a surprise victory, but there are plenty of positives to take from this if you are a Shackleford fan.

Trainer Dale L. Romans and jockey Jesus Castaton have to do a better job of pacing Shackleford, but the Preakness may play to their strengths as Pimlico is a faster surface than Churchill Downs, and the race is a little shorter than the Kentucky Derby. But he definitely has the top-end speed to compete; if he can close better, Shackleford will roar to a big win in your sports betting book.

Kentucky Derby Underdog Picks

Calvin BorelThe 2011 Kentucky Derby betting race is set for a few days from now at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. With 22 of the best three year old thoroughbreds in the nation, set to run for the roses, it is up to you Kentucky Derby betting enthusiasts to choose the winner! To help you make your pick, this article will list a few long shots that may have a chance to win the Derby on Saturday.

Brilliant Speed (22 to one) – Despite only having two wins in eight career starts, Brilliant Speed is a horse on a lot of people’s radars for this Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. One of Brilliant Speed’s two career wins came a couple of weeks ago, when it qualified for the Kentucky Derby, during the Blue Grass Stakes. As a result of the victory, Brilliant Speed saw its odds increase from 30 to one to 22 to one, so somebody knows something about this horse.

Twice The Appeal (45 to one) – Originally set to be ridden by Christian Santiago – Reyes, Twice the Appeal trainer Jeff Bonde was able to convince three time Kentucky Derby winner Calvin Borel to ride Twice The Appeal this Saturday. For those new to horse betting, Calvin Borel has won three of the last four Kentucky Derby’s including the past two in a row. It’s no betonline scam, Borel is like the Kobe Bryant of horse racing, and you just don’t bet against Kobe. At 45 to one odds, Twice The Appeal literally lives up to its name, as its odds can make you plenty of money, if Borel is able to win his third consecutive Kentucky Derby on the horses back.

Pants On Fire (35 to one) – Ridden by one of three female jockey’s in the 2011 Kentucky Derby Anna Napravnik, Pants On Fire only has two wins in seven career starts. However, both of those wins came in the colt’s most recent starts. Meaning to say, what’s to say that the win streak can’t keep on rolling?

NBA Betting – Look For Bulls, Lakers To Meet In Finals

Chicago BullsThose who bet on the Kentucky Derby are always looking for the upstart, and this year in the NBA, that upstart was Chicago, who roared to the best record in the league during the regular season. They have a tough road out of the Eastern Conference, and we’re confident they’ll finish the job. But waiting for them in the NBA Finals: the two-time defending champions from Los Angeles.

Chicago played a physical five-game series against Indiana, and in particular, the health of Derrick Rose’s ankle was a question, although he silenced most of the queries with another MVP performance in the series clincher. The Bulls now have to wait for the Orlando-Atlanta series to end, and they should be able to beat either of those teams. The key is the other matchup between Boston and Miami, as those two teams are going to pound on each other, which makes Chicago’s road to the Finals that much easier.

The Lakers finally put their foot on the gas in their series against New Orleans in Game 5, and we’re pretty confident that they’ll end it on Thursday night. Kobe Bryant’s ankle was also an issue, but a pair of highlight-reel dunks showed that the five-time NBA champion was more than fine. Unlike the Bulls, we really don’t know what the Lakers’ road to the NBA Finals looks like, but in Game 5 against the Hornets, they showed that their size advantage should be enough to give them a chance to win their third straight title. Don’t bet against the Lakers in your online sportsbook.
